Last night i went to get something from my van when at the top of the road a Chinese lantern rolled down the roof of the house where the tiler lives with his mother (see my post in bathroom tiling) so i thought i'd better check it out so sauntered up there and a small fire had started, there were two bits burning, the candle on her bonnet and also the plastic spoiler, i pulled the frame away but the spoiler had already caught within less than two mins it took me to get there, so these things have the potential to be extremely dangerous.

Summer before last, some people who had moved in two doors down were having a barbecue at night. They were lighting these lanterns and letting them float away. The breeze was blowing them towards our house, and the lanterns were just clearing some tall Leylandii trees down the side of our house.

I went out and asked them if they could stop (politely), because if one of the lanterns lodged in the trees, the whole lot could go up. This could then possibly spread to our house.

They agreed with me, and stopped. Some people have no common sense at all.

Leylandii tree, thats them things that are aprox. 99% turps or Whitespirit.

The lantern came from the village area.

Rediculous things that should be banned. Massive risk of causing a fire and also a hazard to wildlife and farm animals

These trees don't catch fire like that, learn more.

Yep. you have to chop Leylandii down i the summer and let them dry out, before they are a fire risk.

The neighbores plastic bumper was well alight within 2 mins, if you look closely you will find underneath a leyll a load of dead needles, perhaps even a wooden shed, it would not take as much as a lot of you think.
