Hi,

I have a hole in my chimney breast where a back boiler used to be.

Do i have to use fire rated bricks to fill the hole or can i use common ones. If i can use common, what would be best i.e. clay, concrete. There will only be an inset electric fire installed (no gas)

The same goes for the mortar. I've seen fire cement, do i need to use this ?

Thanks for your help.

If you're only using an electric inset fire then you'll be fine with standard clay bricks and mortar.
