Fireplace query

Hello, just looking for ideas on what would be required to bring this fireplace back to life as a working fireplace.

We are getting the room plastered at the moment so I’m wondering if there is anything the plasterer should be doing now? Or are there any other recommended steps before he takes any action?

what do you mean by or want with a "working fireplace" - an appliance or an open fire etc?

Sorry for lack of conciseness, I mean open fireplace..

do you mean an open, solid fuel fire recessed in the fireplace opening eg. an old fashioned coal fire?
