To illustrate I've drawn a picture of what I'm on about.

I've done a few door frames before but never angled so I'm asking how I should do this?

or square the door, but i dont think it will be pleasing to the eye?
or reduce the frame and pack it out on opposite sides.but then you have the worry on how to finish any kind of architrave?

My worry is whether squaring the frame at an angle I'll be able to secure it with enough strength. It would require a fair degree of packing out with timber wedges as you say, and the architrave is an issue. I only have hand tools at my disposal, and I'm not confident about cutting wedges accurately by hand. I wouldn't want to spend all that time with a frame that ends up rocking about.

My designer friend seems to think it will look ok, but I'm not so sure. While I'm pondering what to do, I've got a question about fitting the door linings. I've never fitted linings or a door before, so at the moment I have frames built like in the picture, this is because the walls are load bearing.

My problem is that I have built the frame the width of a standard door + 20mm each side + 6mm gap so 762+40+6... I forgot about the casing that goes inside! Now the frame is level, give or take, so what should I do? Can I build it without a casing and just line it, is this ok? These doors need to be FD30s

Can you fully inform us as to why the door must be at an angle, size of door + use etc. ...pinenot :)

Can you fully inform us as to why the door must be at an angle, size of door + use etc. and what the opening direction is, that would help massively in giving a choice of ideas...pinenot :)

Its at an angle because there is a another door adjacent to it. I've decided to basically move the door so that it is all in line so that's it solved.

Just need to know about casings/linings if you or anybody has some input for this?

These alternate names for the door posts. What you need to know is what's acceptable for a 1/2 hr fire door by your building control which your designer friend may be able to tell you? ...pinenot :)

What do mean acceptable for a 1/2 hr fire door, do you mean what is compatible with it? Would a fire check lining by acceptable??? Building control are not notified in this case so does it matter?

Also, when fitting the lining have you any tips? I have bought some packers/shims from screwfix for other jobs but they break up easily. Do I need to use frame fixings to fit the lining or will wood screws do? I use 5x100mm reissers, cheers

OK first things first -
1. what construction is the wall your fixing to made of.
2. is the slap already cut or still to be cut.
3. how have you come to the conclusion that it has to be a 1/2 hr fire door, if you say building control does not have to be notified in this case?
...pinenot :)
