I bought a new PIR floodlight, which has L, N and E connections.

My existing floodlight is an old one which can work as permanent light, or as PIR and so it had 4 cables and not 3. This is the old wiring.

I tried with the SL isolated and with the PL isolated and with both SL and PL connected together, and the new light only turns on but then goes off again.

Any advice?

If it’s a PIR light have you adjusted the time so it stays on for longer ?
This is what confuses me. It does switch on when I connect the PL or SL on its own but then it switches off within a few seconds. And as much as I wave my hand in front of the PIR, the light won't turn back on so I don't know if it is faulty.

I can't see why it would turn on and then stay off. Does the PIR know it is day time and so won't turn on if you move in front of it? I didn't think a PIR light would know the difference between day and night.

Update - I just googled PIR light and it states that the "Lux" setting, pointing towards the sun and the moon determines when the light will turn on. So it probably did work but I couldn't test it because it was day time, so I will have to adjust the "lux" setting to get it to work in the day time, and then to extend the on time.
