Fitting a socket on a wall

I know this is not strictly electric related but I am assuming most electricians have probably done it.

I need to put a socket on a gyproc wall (for cat5 cable). I need to find a way to put this in correctly.. i.e how to I deal with the timber behind the gyproc? how do I cut into it? I assume most electricians here have probably done it to put a new electrical socket on a gyproc wall.

The easiest way to do it is use a dry lining box, and leave the studs alone.

Another quick addition... what about avoiding cables already behind there and of course avoiding the studs themselves... pick up a stud detector I presume is the easiest ?

If you have already located a stud and begun to excavate the wall, draw round the box and drill out the stud using a spade bit. Alternatively, you can cut a hole in the board adjacent to a stud and fix sideways - metal boxes usually have holes in the side you can screw or nail through.

Over my 19 years in the trade, I have used all these methods, plus the dry lining box method mentioned by RF.
