in the process of thinking about refitting bathroom floor and tiling it but in the past when ive done it always regretted not fitting underfloor heating-so this time im gonna have a go.

just after some info as ive seen the matting stuff in the tile centres and wondered if its anygood-if so waht makes are good

the existing floor is floorboard so was either thinking of plying over with either 12mm or 18mm(which would be the best) and also with it being a bathroom would it best be marine ply..

will the matting have to be full floor size or mainly in the middle so heat radiates out..

is this matting ok directly over the ply...

can a stat be used to control temp...

also whats the best floor tile adhesive to use with this matting.

thanx don

Most UFH systems are good nowadays mate, if your floorboards are solidly fixed you would get away with 12mm ply, personally i would take up the floorboards and replace with 25mm ply ( prime the underside and edges of the ply, and NO it does`nt have to be marine ply). If overboarding with ply, screw the boards down at 150mm centres.
No the UFH mat does not have to be the size of your floor

Yes the matting is ok directly over the ply

Yes a stat is used to control temp

best adhesive is a matter of opinion, but make sure it is a flexible adhesive, and also flexible grout.

P.S
Use a plastic serated trowel to spread your adhesive and be VERY CAREFUL of the UFH elements ( thats why plastic is used instead of metal)

were you ask if the heat radiates up..
the ufh mainly works by taking the chill out your tiles, its not a primary heat source..

you say its a bathroom then imo..go for the cable system,by using this in a bathroom you can place it better,(were you would like..)and around were your whites will be.(dont run in under wc,pedestal etc)..

matting is usually used in a more larger area..i.e..kitchen/dinner..etc.

for a more faster heat up time, you may want to look into thermal boards.
hope this helps...
