I'm installing some engineered wood flooring. Haven't decided whether to have a floating floor or glued parquet flooring. Either way, I'm going to need to cut out a gap at the bottom of the first stair riser and fit it under. Reason for this is because it is curved and as far as I'm aware you can't get beading that you can bend to whatever shape you want.

So, question is, am I likely to be doing any structural damage to the staircase by doing this? It looks just like a piece of ply that I want to be cutting. Pic below...

wont the first riser be carpeted ?
i’d cut the flooring to within 6mm of the riser , the carpet thickness will cover the gap.

I was going to paint the first riser but coming to think of it, your idea makes perfect sense. Thanks.
