Having browsed various posts I am surprised to learn fittings seem to fail quite frequently.I can understand why plastic fittings are vulnerable but surprised to discover compression joints can fail (assuming that a good olive has been used).Am I just being a bit pessimistic?

They don't fail that frequently. So, yes, you are being pessimistic.

Without wishing to point out the obvious, although you read of failed fittings on here, there are countless thousands and indeed probably millions who do not need to post on here, because their fittings haven't failed.

compression joints usually only fail when they've been fitted in a situation where they can be subjected to undue stress or damage. Can't remember the last time I had one leak cos it was faulty :? In actual fact the same can be said for plastic as the same principles apply.
