I have a firend whose mother lives with them, and she keeps on unplugging the freezer during the night - what I wonder is: Is it OK to 'hard wire' the freezer via a socket outlet with a cable exit in a kitchen?

Appreciate any views on this.

No. But you could use a fused connection unit, either with or without a switch.

Point being, it must have a fuse.
