It has to be very secure as it is supporting decking. What would you use ?

Alligator solid wall anchors, they expand along the drilled hole and will hold more securely than chemical or mechanical anchors of the same size.

Why did you use Celcon blocks instead of concrete?

The blocks have been there years, well before me. I didn't build any of the structures but to support the decking, one side will be against the brickwork and the other against this concrete block wall.

I will add that there will be posts supporting the cross member which also benefit from being supported by the ground, which I may well add concrete to.

These seem great but what size and what to screw into them ?

You could use either bolts or screws, use the 8mm or 10mm, they fill the drilled hole so have 100% contact. If you go into a cavity, they pop open and wedge in the cavity.

I appreciate the suggestion but this is 4" x 2" which is essentially around 50mm thick. Forgive me if I have missed something but just what would I do with something 260mm to 300mm long ?

Cut them down to size and then use washers and nuts to hold to the wall, you said it had to be secure, with that it will be.

I see now, though I have nothing to cut such bolts.

A quick google for these does not bring up the million or so places you'd think would be selling them.

Where has an online shop ?
