fixing floor joists around new loft stairs

Hi guys and gals, after some advice please I have just had the joiners in while i was away to fit my stairs they have got them up great and were leaving me to finish the floor joists around them, just wandering if its acceptable to fit double floor joists to the newel post at top of stairs? they are a triple winder so i cant run a double joist the length of the room as it interferes with the head height at first winder,

Hi thanks for the reply, i understand the principle of the trimming I just wanted to check its ok to fix one end of the double joist into a full newel post
