I need to attach laminate flooring scotia trim to various lengths of painted plaster wall without skirting and stone fireplace hearths - instant grab adhesive doesn't really work very well, especially to the smoother surfaces.

Could anyone suggest what the best approach is?

you should have skirting on the wall to protect the wall and fill the gap between floor and wall ???

Might give silicone a go, thanks.

There's obviously no skirting around a hearth and I have a boxed-in fireplace on a chimney breast which is open to floor-level so again no skirting there.

i find the best way to fix beading trim, without nails, is to buy a good adhesive and find some old house bricks. Apply the adhesive to either the trim or the skirting and floor, which ever works best for you. Then as soon as you press the trim in place, position the brick against it to hold it in place till the adhesive is dry enough. You might want to cover the brick in some dusters or old tshirts that are ready for binning.
Hope this is helpful. I just did mine and I'm quite proud of the end result.
