Hi

I'm looking at having the whole of my house cladded. At the moment about 3/4 is a sorted of pebbled painted render and below that, the bottom of the house is flush brick work (pic attached).

I havent had any builders round to quote yet so I dont even know if is possible. Is there a method to fix the cladding so it looks completely neat and proper or am I asking for problems?

The cladding wont be fixed directly. The walls will need vertical battening first, then cladding, leaving gap at bottom ((covered with insect mesh). That way there will be a cavity behind the cladding, stopping build up of damp.

Thanks. I understand the walls will need vertically battening, but becuase of the lumpy raised rendering, I can't work out how the final appearance of the cladding will look right. Is it possible to get put battening up and still get the desired effect when the wall behind the battening is not flat?

Many thanks
Terri

If the job is done properly the battens would be fixed with wedge packers or shims where needed and a straight edge used to check the face of the battens stays flat and level.

A small discrepency wont show on cladding anyway,

External cills might need changing

Thank you.

Yes, I will be haviny the windows changed and when it comes to the cills, I guess those raised black tiles can be knocked off.

We’ve done plenty of these and just as Notch says the key to getting your battens dead level is packers and a long level.

The most important thing above all is the kind of cladding you decide to use. I’ve seen people slap white hollow soffit over render which has quite simply ruined and devalued the house.
