I don't think there was ever anything right with that roof

It looks like the joist are at about 1m centres and there doesn't seem to be any boarding at all, unless it was thin chipboard which has just collapsed.

Total rebuild required
 
i agree, a right pigs ear!

looks like the main slate roof has had a few problems too, what with all those lead cleats visible.
 
Looks typical of a failed woodwool roof or simular.

May have been a fire there?

There was never a fire. From the inside the the joists and beams a wet through, so im guessing that its not stable at all. Also a lot of ponding has occured lower down the roof thats leaking in. Whats the deal with the corrogated metal? All in all was this a case of poor workman ship/ bad choice of methods, or plain out failure.

LOL, The roofer even wrote on the wall the amount of months the roof would last :eek:
