What would be the best system to use if you are a diy.er. personally i would recommend a single ply system such as epdm for simple jobs like a freestanding garage ect.
The advantages would be that epdm can be cut as a single sheet so no joints means no leaks, also it can be overlaid over an existing roof which saves having to strip off old roof, the preformed metal edge trim means no messing about edge drips which can be tricky for diy ers also the rubber has the manufacturers 20 yr guarantee. Others may disagree of course.
