Floorboard access, instead of JB's can i use WAGO connectors

I have been informed that screwed JB's are not allowed under floorboards even if the floorboards are screwed down.

Instead of JB's can i use WAGO connectors (i dont fancy crimping or soldering) to alleviate this - as they are screwless?

With all due respect, there was no question of me trying to circumvent regs. I was led to believe the regs stated screwed JBs had to be accessible, the reason being that the screws came loose!! So i asked if using screwless connectors such as WAGO are allowed...

If i had no intention of following the regs I would not even be asking the question. I would just go ahead and do it anyways. I was looking for advice.

A simple nope... that is not acceptable because WAGO style connectors are not allowed would have been a sufficient .

What started my questioning was the TLS website http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Boxes_and_Enclosures_Index/Wago/index.html

Under "Wago 224 Series Lighting Connectors" - "notes" - "point 3" it states "Replace crimp and twist connections"

If they are 'no-no' then so be it - i am not going to argue the point.... I am sure i can work around the JB issue and avoid using the existing one altogether by bypassing it completely.

I believe that if some one has take the time to reply and give time for free then who am i to complain even if its not the advice i wanted to hear

I take on board your comments and that of "LoveRocket" and the general tone of the forum regarding "WAGO" connectors as a replacement for crimping does not sound to reassuring.

So to be on the safe side i shall be avoiding them for this particular situation

It all depends on one's own personal interpretation of the regulations. My position is that so-called maintenance free terminals such as Wago connectors are not compliant for use in inaccessible locations. However, as previous multi-page topics have proven, there's a minefield of differing opinions out there.

My advice would be to choose a side of the fence that suits you, and then stick with it

I was under the impression that what manufacturers said over-ruled the regs?

Unfortunately I do not have the relevant experience or knowledge on matters of UK-Electrics to really have a strong opinion.

If the tradesmen on here, who after all do this job on a day to day basis and know what works in the field and what does'nt; and the general consensus is don't use them for the purpose i originally intended - then who am I to disagree with informed opinion.

I think that if wago are stating maintainance free, and you decided to use that, I wouldn't be advising anything other than a carpet covering over that area of floor and definatly a large marking of white paint with a notice on the board. I was given some of the ashley type once by a home owner who had sourced them after throwing his bulider off site for taping up connector blocks in the wall to extend a ring final circuit. I popped the ashley items in the bin and installed 47mm deep boxed in the wall below coving hight and wired from there, crimped the cables in the 47mm boxes and fitted blank plates. Not very attractive, but nicer to look at than a ripped apart kitchen with holes in the walls which have been made trying to find these ashley boxes.

I asked an NIC inspector this exact question a about a year and a half ago and he said he was happy for Wago's to be used in an inaccessible location. Depends on your defenition of inaccessible as always, but in this instance we were talking about domestic, under floorboards with whatever covering.
