Have to lay an engineer hardwood flooring in my In-laws place. They want it in the two lengths of hallway and the kitchen area. I am not too sure of which way to run it - along the hallway at the bottom towards a loo or from the bottom upwards towards the top which is the lounge.

Both parts of the hallway are the same length. I personally prefer the former choice as the run follows the eye as you enter the front door.

Opinions from others would be appreciated please.

Two other options come to mind (both of them treat the kitchen as separate area what we always recommend, so place a divider in the door-opening there anyway.)

Option 1: diagonal?
Option 2: divider parallel to frontdoor, so you can switch direction there and run the wood in both long narrow areas lengthways.

Thanks for that. I was trying to avoid any joins as they are very elderly. But if that is what it needs I will do it.

Because you will have the same floor level at both sides of the divider there will only be a very gently 'step' - if you can call it a step at all - of 2 -3 mm due to the divider.
