I'm redecorating a bedroom and i can hear everything from the front room. I'm going to install acoustic rockwall in the cavity as there is nothing in there.
However the flooring is old interlocking t&g. There are lots of gaps from various plumbing over the years. It was suggested i rip it up and put in the large chipboard flooring which could assist.

Is it worth doing?

Holes and gaps in floors or ceilings DO let noise through. For example holes for downlighters or pipes.

You could experimentally try putting offcuts over them

Chipboard is an awful material. When the floor is eventually replaced, use ply and nog all unsupported joints.

For best results, lay mineral wool under the floor, and seal gaps, e.g. round the edges, with fire-rated expanding foam. Sealing the gaps really does help.
