Hi
Have a small problem with my fluorescent lights which i have just fitted in the loft. Have connected two 5 foot lights together with the following wiring. live to live neutral to neutral and earth to earth. The second light has been connected to a junction box. To the junction box there is wiring from a light switch which is connected to the new wiring red to brown (live) black to blue and earths connected together. After connecting all together tried switch and no lighting. Have i missed something

thanks

Have you anything you can use to test for power, test lamps/multimeter??
Are you sure you have got a neutral, you may only have a live and switched live at the switch, although its black it may not be a neutral.
If possible can you upload any pics?

The main question here is were is the power supply coming from?
and why have you connected the second light to the switch? As it should be the first light in the parallel circuit that is switched, then loop in between lights, no need for any external junction/jointing between light fittings.
Take live/neutral/ earth from lighting circuit, if possible. Then feed to switch, connect neutral to and from switch to light in a connection block within switch enclosure, then in-coming live to com and live out to L1, earth to earth connection on back box if there is one or connect into a connection block as neutral.
Then cable to first light live to live, neutral to neutral, earth to earth, then loop between the two fittings using the same configuration, as previously mentioned.

its possible the black/ blue at the junction box is not a neutral.

With lighting it is wrong to assume that they are

Yes, it appears you have no supply at the junction box.

PLUS, THE BLUE (or black in older cables) IN THE SWITCHWIRE IS NOT A NEUTRAL.

THE WIRES CONNECTED TO THE SWITCH TERMINALS OF A SINGLE POLE SWITCH CANNOT BE NEUTRAL BECAUSE IF THEY WERE, THERE WOULD BE A S*DDING GREAT BIG BANG WHEN YOU CLOSE THE SWITCH.

The only way your lights would work would be if the cable coming from the light switch was a switched live & neutral, the feed having gone to the switch.

Rant over.
