Presumably you have two black and two red wires at your light fitting.
One cable (red & black) will be live & neutral, the other cable (red & black) will be live and switched live going to your switch. See the Wiki for more details of how this works.
You need to determine which is your switched live. You may need to purchase a multimeter to work out which is which.
