You need a 40 watt T8 tube of the correct length for your fitting (maybe 3 or 4 foot).

If the fitting has a starter, change this too.

If the shade of white is important, this is what the 35 (350) is for. This is warm white if i remember right. Some tubes use kelvins for colour temp. look for around 3500k.

I have 4 foot tubes so I can look for a T8 warm white and starter.
Very many thanks for your reply it is most helpful.

also, if one tube is changed, the other will look dull in comparison to the new one. Might as well change both, the other might be on its way out.

40w / 35 is an old inch and half tube T12, colour white, not warm white.

If the fitting has a starter, you can replace with a 36 watt T8,these are 1 inch diameter though.

Colour white would be 36w/35 or 36w/3500.

36 w/ 835 is a more efficient tube if you want one.

The T8 pin connectors are they the same width apart as on the T12?

T8 and T12 pins are identical. Good thing too, as T12 tubes won't be available for much longer.
