i want to put up a flush door, the egg box type into a 29 and a half inch opening the width of the door is 30ins what i want to know is can i saw the the half inch off the lock side ,will the lock go in further or do i have to take it off the hinges side

always get the hinge side fitting done first. this side needs to fit well so i would advise trimming here first then take the remainder off the lock side.
