without ruining other side of the wall when chasing out

thanks

Slowly and carefully, with much depth-stopped stitch-drilling to lessen the force needed to chisel out the material.

Is the other side of the wall accessible?

yes it is accessible
it is an internal wall
why would this be of significance

thanks

suppose power tools are out the question box sinkers etc

If its thermalite block, take a screwdriver to it. Thats what I did. Horrid stuff. Very soft. Ended up gluing the backbox in with some "sticks like ****"

Depending on making good issues you could firmly screw a square of 12mm ply or MDF to the other side to give it support while you're hacking away...

or you can just accept that you are going to damage the wall, pack round the socket box with sand and cement mortar afterwards to repair the hole from both sides, and skim the surface with filler or plaster before redecorating.

Yes. Many years ago, I saw a house being rewired. They wanted to put a socket on one side, but the rather heavy-handed apprentice knocked a hole right through (no stitch-drilling, bas!!)

So they fixed a stout piece of ply in the hole, fixed 35mm boxes to both sides and made good. Job done.
