Follow on from previous Pointing Post of earlier today

Can anyone please tell me the mix that should have been used for pointing ie: Cement to Sand ratio - Someone has just highlighted something to me that fills me with dread. It was a true bricklayer that did the pointing by the way.

four parts sand to one part cement or 5 parts sand to one part cement The other reply was shorthand

well I`ve not seen much mastic pointing here down south but I`ve heard that maybe it`s a mix with linseed oil . ordinary pointing would get wetted - but not soak in much - it certainly wouldn`t shed water in beads like on a polished car - I`ve not really looked closely @ any in the pouring rain
