it dosnt register a count on just talk although it will show or at least thats what i remember they said to stop back slapping

You can talk about any old crud in the general forum (and people do) and it is common on sites with a thank you system for general drud to not add to your reputation.
Its generally kept for helpful posts for instance in DIYnot things like help in the actual DIY forums where people are asking questions/seeking help.
American Accents, tropical fish and fundamental christian transsexuals are not the type of messages that should be improving a members reputation.
So I do not see there being anything broken.
