ford focus 1999 diesel clutch problem

Most of the time it is fine, but recently, and only after long motorway trips, the pedal was on the floor causing me to have to crash the gearbox... after a short while, the pedal slowly came back and has been ok since, however, again on long [over 40 miles] and at "faster" speeds, i am aware that it may happen again as the clutch disengage point gets a little nearer the floor.... any ideas please?

If this has a hydraulic clutch as I think it has, that I think is where your problem lies. Some of these are sealed systems but if not check the fluid level.
