A tip when running a dedicated freezer circuit, it might be wise to install a neon indicator for it on something like the hall ceiling, so if the freezer rcd trips, you will be aware of the problem.

Although if it does trip, one could perhaps assume the freezer is faulty anyhow, and resetting the trip could be futile? Perhaps just an early warning to "get this lot ate".

You could over-engineer things further - A 240v relay on the freezer circuit, with the NC contacts feeding a siren from a seperate, regularly used circuit. Freezer circuit fails, relay closes, siren sounds.

It is something which I have considered many times as we split into multi-RCD protected circuits so it becomes more likely that one can trip without us realising.

Double socket and a torch like this

may be better as it will light when it fails rather than when healthy.

However with a "dedicated" circuit why not use Ali-tube cable and no RCD on the circuit? There is no need for a RCD for a "dedicated" circuit and MCB's rarely trip without there being a real fault.

I will admit I have looked a few times at my emergency landing light at top of stairs tried to switch it off and realised the power was off. Yet I had not noticed that non of the array of LED's on Sky box, TV etc. were not lit.

Hook up the relay to your security alarm and receive a text message when your freezer packs up. Guaranteed to ruin your holiday

With my mains sockets going down today (RCD tripped due to fault) and a fridge freezer absolutely choc full of food, I can fully appreciate a seperate freezer circuit...

Or simply cut the plug off and wire it via a fused spur in plan view.

D'oh, there's always a downside.

Perhaps a dedicated circuit is not such a good idea, after all.

Same thing here.

An emergency light on the freezer ciruit kills two birds with one stone. Emergency light in a power cut and indication when the freezer is in trouble.

Here's another tip.

Before you go on holiday take an ice cube out of its tray and place it loose in the top of one of the drawers.

If when you get back it's gone, you'll know that at some time there was a power cut which lasted long enough for things to thaw out.
