Just to explain to anyone who does not understand what is going on!

The original poster here, DAJ, has encountered a stuck SIT 845 gas valve on his own jag boiler.

He took it apart, cleaned it, and got his boiler working again. He has then decided to make a bit of money by doing this for his friends. This is very dangerous and totally illegal too. He could kill his friends but that does not bother him and he has no insurance, he just wants to make a few quid and does not mind if he puts his friends at risk.

There is nothing clever in what he does, I could do it too! But I am responsible and very concerned by safety and I would never do that.

He is actually is very stupid because he could do the same thing more safely by running ether through the valve which would not involve dismantling it.

Someone so dangerous and intent on acting illegally and without and concern for his friends should be totally ignored.

He partially explains his action because he was ripped off by some plumber. He won the Court case but still has a motive of combating RGIs.

SAD, SAD, SAD. You have nothing better to do. DOITALL with 2162 posts, AGILE with 4018. SAD, SAD, SAD. Don't you have any friends, you have to chat on here about sucking pipes, washers and gas. SAD, SAD, SAD. I guess this is a porn site to a CORGI. If I need to know something, I check out the web, I use a computer as a tool, not a replacement for having a life. SAD, SAD, SAD ! ! ! You have all made your point (to the extreme) and perhaps it may have been foolish to have advised someone to carry out the repairs I have, but have you nothing better to do? In answer to the **** who said I was repairing them for friends for money, WRONG. It is a CORGI based in Colchester whom I am repairing them for. I repaired 2 for family members. You have all made your points, some valid and put in a correct manner and others, LONELY TONY, not. All in all, I think we can SAFELY say the matter is now closed ! !

Oh, by the way LONELY TONY, there is little to clean in a gas valve. They tend to stick (bad design) through constant use rather than the lubricant leaking from the silicone boot. You probably have never seen one inside (too risky).

I am afraid that you are wrong! I always like to know how things work and I regularly take apart faulty gas valves to look at the insides but I dont reassemble them or reuse them. I only fit new parts in boilers for out clients.

You are also wrong about why they stick! Its actually as a result of the glycol that Transco put into the gas pipes to stop freezing during the winter. Some valves are more susceptible that others. Most have now been redesigned to reduce the likelyhood of sticking.

Its very disappointing that any CORGI registered person should be fitting "repaired" gas valves. He is risking his registration and large claims that his insurance is unlikely to cover.

It seems to be a thing that one bad experience leaves people jaded. Just because there are a few rip off merchants around doesn't mean all RGI are! I do jobs for people that I know can't afford it and I charge them accordingly. Not that people who can afford it get ripped off by the way. Also Doing DIY gas work for other people is irresponsible and dangerous. Just because you haven't blown anyone up YET don't make U competant.

Has this topic been silently moderated?

Its a mix of two posts DAJ is apparantly illegally employed by a local plumber to work on gas appliances again illegally due to the fact he experienced a rogue trader in the past
