French polishing is quite hard work. 30 's items might not be French polished in which case strip and apply Danish oil, hardwax oil or varnish.
I have restored old Ercol items, it is well worth the effort as they are made from nice wood. My items are like new. Good restoration increases value, bad doesn't.
