I have a gable end to paint that is 5m high. The problem is that thee is a tall fence just 1m from this wall and I cannot put a ladder or anything the other side. A ladder that reaches up the wall is so unstable as it can't get back away from the wall far enough.

What is the best way to paint it?

Cheers.

Scaffolding. Might need to foot some of it on the other side of fence

I have ordered a telescopic "thing" now. Seems a bit floppy - dunno how accurate it will be.
Is there a technique that pro's use that we mortals are not allowed to know or do they just go for it!?
I did get quotes but they were around the £2k mark. I'd rather let the house fall down.

Scissor lift?

For £250 for a week that's what id use.
That's if a scaffolder couldn't sort something.

I think you'll just have to be very careful when cutting in,
Pick a day when it's cool and not sunny, and take your time in doing some reasonable cutting in without rushing it.

I sprayed my wall, it was large rough pebbledash (so brush or roller would have taken days)only had a metre to wall for ladder but that gave 4-1 ration needed , luckily I could reach over the top of the ladder just enough to reach top .
Had to use a small step ladder to get onto the ladder at base because of the lack of room.

No, not a scissor lift an extending pole thing. As usual, I'm going to try a half-@rsed solution first. Yes, maybe if I cut in carefully I can get away wit it. I can't spray it, I'm too clumsy which does not bode well for ladders and poles!

I used a pair of ladder cripples the last time I painted outside walls in a restricted space. Too old now so friends borrow them.

My longest extension pole is just shy of 4m. At the angle you will being working, you will not be able to apply sufficient pressure. At a minimum, you will need to ask your neighbour to let you work from their side of the fence. The major downside is that you will have to retract the pole every 5 mins and position your roller tray 2+m away.

You might be able to use a tower, but you might need to fit eyelets to secure it.

I think that @Wayners suggestion is the best option.
