Hi all

We are considering fitting a downstairs toilet in our house (1940's semi).

We have considered, either fitting under the stairs and loosing storage space or turning a small area of the garage into a toilet with washbasin. We have seen the saniflo products.

Has anyone done this - either under the stairs or in garage and if so, what do we need to consider?

Thanks in advance

Avoid Macerators unless there is no real alternative (but there usually is), especially if you have young children who like to throw things down the loo. If you go with a Macerator, buy your self a pair of stout elbow length gloves & a carbon filter face mask; I’ll leave the delights of unblocking one to your imagination

New toilet installations is notifyable work (fee involved); there are several Building Regulations you must comply with & LABC will require inspection & in some cases witness testing.

Perhaps they use a British Standard turd of a certain radius, length and density!

IIRC there used to be one. The 'BST' used to be a tightly rolled copy of 'The Times' newspaper cut in half - or maybe that was just a comment on their editorial policy.
