Garden electrics from new house extension

Greetings all at the moment having a small extension built on to house its at damp course/foundation level atm i want to run some power into garden just to run a water feature and a double socket maybe some lights aswell just wondering if i can spur off extension ring main just want to now a few regs or just general good electrical/mechanical pratice will i have to make sure power to garden is protected by an RCD can i run SWA into damp course bricks would drilling a hole at that level affect the foundations what kind of size SWA can i use 2.5? many thanks for reading this any help would be great btw very sorry for spelling and grammar

You say you "just" want it to run a, b c and d........

You need to calculate what you want it for, and then consider future-proofing it, ie fitting a cable and circuit bigger than is currently req'd.

As a start, do you need more than 13A?

Hello Secrespark thank you for your very quick reply The way i was looking to tackle this job was to get a supply from double socket in new extension then connect that to RCD i suppose a 13 amp one then take a 2.5 SWA cable to a waterproof juntion box which would be fixed to wooden gazebo then from juntion box run separate supplys to water feature/light in gazebo maybe control the gazebo light with a waterproof switch fused spur?

Yes im doing all the work myself and yes im aware of part P of the building regs i will get my sparky friend to inspect plus test intallation

oh ban, come on, be reasonable, his last post had a ? mark in it.

your extension's electrics should already be RCD protected if they are complying with the current electrical regs (tell the builder you want an electrical certificate for any electrical work carried out). Therefore absolutely no point having an RCD further down the line.

drilling through a wall will have no affect on foundations unless its a metre in diameter.

so, to summarise, yes, you can take a 13A fused spur off a socket on the ring main (not already a spur) and run SWA to an adaptable plastic box outside. I would use a couple of masterseal sockets instead, to be honest. They seal around anything plugged into them, maintaining the IP rating.
