we have asked a few builders for quote for a front garden wall we have block paving and the first builder rather laughed when he said he would need a skilsaw to cut the block paving the next builder didn't mention it at all and now im not sure if its necessary or not as this isn't my area of expertise
the wall will be 7 metres long made of a 5 metre section a right angle and then a 2 metre section and approx. 4 courses high with a soldier course on top
does it need a foundation I don't want to disturb the block paving if I don't have too
I also want the builders to compete on a level playing field I don't want one to get the job because he considers it doesn't need the foundation when the others have priced for it

I thought a skil saw referred to a tool used for cutting timber.

As opposed to a stihl saw which is the best known brand of petrol diamond saw.

I wouldve thought the standard method would be to take up a strip of blocks, dig the foundation, build wall then reinstate the blocks -cutting as needed.

they aren't going to be able to build a wall on top of block paving as the blocks are basically loose and designed to move! But there are other ways to cut block pavers, or they may plan a fillet of mortar.
Although, having said that when I came to dig up our patio, I discovered part of the house was built on top of the patio slabs (standard conservatory was slightly too wide, so they shoved a column of bricks on top of the patio to attach it to!)
