hi, gas meter outside. pipe comes into the house under
the stairs which are boarded up and therefore the
pipe is inaccessible. The first place that the pipe is visible
in the house is where it comes thru the wall into the kitchen.
Can i bond from this point?

be difficult cz gas meter is at the front of the property
which is mid terrace. No way around the outside. I know
that the 600mm point of entry reg wud mean bonding
under the stairs but like i sed , that is not possible
cz its all permanently boarded up now. The first visible point of entry is in the kitchen

dont care where it becomes visible.

The regs say within 600mm so thats where it gets bonded.

Nothing is impossible.

Why is it dangerous to bond where it is visible as it can't be touched when boarded up?

please learn to type in English..

test speak is frowned upon here as it's hard to read.. and after all you don't have a limit on the number of characters to a message here..

Within 600mm from gas meter and before the first T in the gas pipe work ;)

"bonding connections to incoming metal services should be as
near as possible to the point of entry of the services to the
premises, but on the consumers side of any insulating section"

Not according to gas regs and latest Part P and the gas engineer will be the one issuing the earth bonding notice every year at the boiler service and ****ing your customer off

wen it says point of entry, it doesnt say whether
thats outside or inside. So near as possible cud
mean in the kitchen where it becomes visible

that was taken out of " the electricians guide to the
building regulations" which specifically deals with
part p and all the other approved documents

The gas regs are definatley within 600mm from the mete and before the first T. My Part P trainer, who was a fully qualified and practising registered sparks told us the the electric regs have now been brought up to match the gas regs.

The 16th edition of the IEE regs (BS7671) for some time have required: The main equipotential bonding connection to any gas, water or other service shall be made as near as practicable to the point of entry of that service to the premises. Where there is an insulating section or insert at that point, or there is a meter, the connection shall be made to the consumer's hard metal pipework and before any branch pipework. Where practicable the connection shall be made within 600mm of the meter outlet union or at the point of entry to the building if the meter is external.

Afaict this regulation has remained unchanged since 1997.

Is it an actual gas regulation you speak of or guidance?

so Spark123, if the point of entry is inaccessable because
its boarded up, can i bond at the first sign of it of not?
Theres no need to bond outside is there. I only tend to bond
there if i can run the cable around outside and then come
thru near where the CU is.
