Gas cooker cover safety shut off.

So I was wondering if someone could clear this up.

Quite a few gas cookers have glass cooker lids which have a safety shut off valve. Quite often these get seized up.

So does this mean a cooker is unsafe for use and has to be disconnected or is it an advisory?

The reason I ask is that I have been told conflicting views so does this mean it's subjective and depends on the engineer?

If a gas cooker safety valve doesn't work then quite simply it fails its gas safety check and should be disconnected until it is fixed.
