Gas Fire knob spinning !

Hi guys,

The knob on my gas fire has stopped turning the gas on and is now just spinning.
I intend to dismantle tomorrow but was hoping someone could give me a few hints on what to expect.

Am I looking for a snapped shaft or just a locking pin that has sheared ?

Pull the control knob off and have a look on the backside it should have a flat edge that corresponds to a flat side on the spindle.Sometimes the flat side rounds off as it is only plastic,if this is the problem then you only need a new knob,if that isn't the fault then get a registered gas engineer in.

DOH. I should have thought about that.....

I doubt I will go the gas fitter route until I get stuck. I am not totally incompetant on this though, I do work in engineering, just not on the gas side.
