Not too sure if I have got the name right, but when I had BG out to look to if if my boiler was burning the correct amount of gas he had a little application on his laptop, which allowed him to input info that appeared on the boiler, time and the amount of units used. The answer that popped out was a rating that could be compared to the rating on the side of the boiler.

Anyone know where I can get one, or if I have the right name for it.

Mark.

sounds like he gas rated your boiler

for us lesser mortals we have to use a bit of paper and a pen  or if we are really lazy a table

why do you want to know? do you think the bg bloke got it wrong or something?

There are simple formulae for converting meter readings to kW ratings for boilers or other appliances.

If the gas meter measures in cubic feet, time how many seconds the dial takes to complete one revolution (time 2 revs and halve the result for greater accuracy), then divide 1098 by the number of seconds and you have the gross input in kW.

For a metric meter, take a reading for 2 minutes of gas flow and multiply by 323 for the gross input in kW, or by 291 to get the net input.

1m³ of natural gas gives 10.76 kW gross input, so you can use this figure to convert from kWs to cubic metres. To convert gross to net multiply by 0.9 and for net to gross multiply by 1.11.
