I have created a thread regarding mould. But this is for gas engineers. The meter is under the sink. Anyway is this safe with how rusty it is etc? And to tidy it up in there would it be safe make a like plywood box to go round it. Just sides and a top to protect it? Their is no sign of any water leaks. Their could have been in the past and that's how it's got like that

Sides and a top (and a back if you want) would be fine, don't enclose it completely.
If you're worried about the rust, get onto BG & ask them to check it out ('no I can't smell gas but the meter is really rusty & i'm worried it might fall to bits')

If you've got mould, then chances are there is, or has been, a damp issue, which is/was the likely cause of the meter going rusty.
