Hi

I'm a qualified domestic gas engineer and have recently been considering moving to London to fit domestic gas meters. Was wondering if anyone could share any previous experiences they have doing this role in London ie weekly take home, no access to properties etc

Any advice/help would be great!

Thanks

and what are you going to fit these meters to?

They have already got gas.

if you mean changing them then that is probably done by a sub contractor which would mean you go where you are told, not where you want

suppose you get a job, you will not be the only one doing it then you have to move on the the next area, parking no doubt will be bad, expensive and clamps

and what happens when you have finished, thanks now off you go, oh you forgot you are a sub contractor, contract finished mate, bye.

stay where you are london streets are not paved with gold

Hi Bush,

I suppose you know you need at least MET1/MET2 and MET4 would be an advantage. There a millions that need changing and when a particular company lose a contract another will take it over,so not a problem. However London  Access/ parking not brill at all.

Is your prospective employer QHS?

You may not need MET1 etc at all, though it's a very short module. Some meter changing cos do a different qual.
If you like O.T. you can make £50k or so and on the whole it's easy work. Some do shifts like 4 days on 4 days off. Some threads in the gas bit of the forum.....
