Is the pipe connected at the other end? Theoretically it's supposed to have been disconnected completely.

On this very forum. I think someone had a pipe from a redundant gas fire coming out of their floor and they were told to get it removed properly although it should have been capped off as far back as possible. However I'm happy to believe I've been misled if you say so.
