Hi I have Seat Leon 2014 Auto Diesel and had a gearbox problem the car wasn't moving

on the dash it said gearbox error

so I took it to the local Seat dealership and booked it in for a inspection and told them the problem after their inspection they gave me a qoute of £2200, £1700 for the part which was a mechatronic unit and rest was labour

I trusted them as they were the Seat main dealership and agreed and paid the £2200 they gave me a week to collect the car after a week I ring them and they said car wasn't ready saying they to need to get a code from Seat and they gave me another week he also said that we need to check car mechanically to make sure(basically saying the mechatronic unit didnt fix the problem) I said mechanically the car is fine there were no warning lights on the dash just the gearbox is faulty

so a week later I ring them for an update car still not ready I was annoyed this time is said what is happening I'm being messed about and I paid in advance what they said was the gearbox is faulty it needs to be sent to a specialist and stripped and could cost upwards of a £1000

I said what was the £2200 for they said we told you they couldn't garentee the fix I said no you didn't how can you charge me for something your not sure off fixing the problem your suppose to be Seat specialists

I was fuming at this point so she transferred me to the service manger he said the same thing and also said he could of charged me for a new a gearbox which would of cost you £6000

I said the cars not worth that much he said we going to send it to specialists and give me a qoute

at that point i said I leave it with you I don't know much about cars so left it

their they still have my car and waiting for a qoute from the gearbox specialists what I don't get is the mechatronic unit which was replaced and paid £2200 ACCTUALY needed because it didn't fix the issue what should I do £2200 was already alot to pay dont want to pay anymore please help

I hate it when they play parts shotgun, especially with such expensive components and the time it takes. You should expect better from a main dealer. I'd be thinking about collating (written) evidence about what was agreed and taking it to small claims court. If there's no written evidence, perhaps not
