Need to put one up but as the weight will be pulling directly down don't want to mess it up. I suppose there's a risk of going through electrics etc any tips?

any tips?

Pull up a floorboard above if you're worried and check. Electric cable and pipes are supposed to go through holes in the centre of the joists(top to bottom speaking), but anything is possible.

No need to go crazy with the fixings, just a single number 10 screw(with properly sized pilot hole), 1.5 inches into the joist would easily support 100kg of pull-out force.

Work from above ( lift floor boards ) if possible and fit 25 x 25 mm bearers to joists. These then support a plate which takes the weight.

The static weight of the chandelier is less than the dynamic weight that is created when there are children ( or adults ) jumping up and down on the floor above

Bracket supplied will be more than enough screwed to joist which will be directly above or slightly to one side of existing fitting.

Think it's quite light. How do you locate the joist to make sure you drill into it?

Find the apporximate location by tapping and sound it makes, then using a long but small diameter pin to probe though the plaster to find exactly where the sides of the joist are.

You can get helium filled lightbulbs, sure I saw them in b&q, they're designed for chandeliers, so you only need a bit of blu tac to get a good strong fixing on the ceiling.

I guess plate could be 18mm ply
