getting rid of home phone

stretched reality to the point of very unlikely.

Ah, that's Bernie for you. Some of the stuff he comes out on the sparkies forum is bonkers.

He's the sort of guy, who when you want to plug your toaster in, will say

1) Switch off at the meter
2) Switch off at the Consumer Unit
3) Pull out the fuse
4) Pull out the RCD
5) Put rubber sheet on floor (one which isn't sticky)
6) Get wellies on
7) Marigolds on (the ones which aren't sticky)
8 ) Don special gauntlets as used by Electricity Board on mega high voltage lines
9) Evacuate house
10) Put notes through neighbour's doors telling them not to go near a light switch for five minutes, especially if it's metal.
11) Call up friend (yes I know, stretching it) to say call all three emergency services if he hasn't heard from him in two minutes.
12) Welders mask on
13) Plug it in

JUST IN CASE !

Chapeau forgot the most important item that I would always check before starting the process to plug a toaster in,....

Is there any bread in the bread bin to make toast with.

You can have a landline diverted to a mobile so if you think it gives you some sort of security you are woefully misguided..
Eh?

So you would still need the land line which itinerants won't have dummy.

I reckon for the sake of £250 quid per year it is a worthy investment for some businesses.

Our land line costs £7.50 per month plus calls.

are all your house lights low energy???
this could save you more ??

Yes I changed 27 light fittings in the house to 6w led (proper commerical units not poxy ebay specials btw)

i am all led about 20 varying from 1.5w- 10w annual light bill £10-£18 dependent on which bulbs are on

thats that avenue covered unless you have any security lights with normal bulbs in

can you not reduce your sky package :?: :?:

why do you believe a land line makes you more secure when dealing with a company if the LL is just a means of dirverting a call?

However as I say this is for my home phone not my business...

What has made you think I have Sky???
FYI I will never ever ever pay for sky or anyother TV package (as I say I am with Virgin media BB& phone in any case)

sorry ment virgin package :D

If I reduce to BB only it drops down to £22 pm for their 30meg service without a landline. Still too expensive but less than half overall with a LL

The only down side is their so called 'superhub' which is a pile of ****e

If you want a landline 'presence' without the landline then you can consider a skype number.

That is not what I inferred or stated in my post.
there can be a mistrust if they don't see a land line number i.e. our travelling community tradespeople are highly unlikely to offer a land line as a means of getting in touch if you wanted to complain for instance.

The LACK of a land line i.e. seeing only a mobile number, can make a certain group of people suspicious and could be detrimental from a commercial point of view. Geddit yet?

You can read can't you?

getting rid of home phone

"Home phone"...? What, stating the words home phone automatically means that we are in a position to know that you won't be getting business calls through it?

Funny because i have business calls come through on my home phone. Anyone else?

One other thing is that you can identify with land line std code in that it gives you some idea as to whether a person is fairly local or not. Mobile numbers are anonymous. I know it does not apply to you Mr bartlett but it is another reason why mobiles are less trusting to a certain group.

08 numbers burnt that bridge...More and more people and businesses will drop landlines in time as the world moves forward.

Phoning a business which the Mrs answers with screaming kids in background is equally a business turn off in my book.
My business is separate (hence my mentioning my business fax line being disconnected) and I rarely deal at this bottom end of the market of traders so please forgive my ignorance of how you operate.
