We have a Gledhill BG25 which has just sprung a leak. Called heating engineer, he opened it up and after poking around for a few minutes determined that it was the "Heat exchanger" that has burst open and needs changing. He now tells me that Gledhill has gone bankrupt and the part is no longer available and I will need to replace the boiler for a new alternative one.
Now, I paid over £2500 for this excellent boiler just over two years ago!
Is this really my only option?
Does anyone have any ideas?
Is there a possibility that I can pick up a second hand Gledhill unit for a reasonable price so I can get the heat exchanger of that? Where would I look for this?
I'm really running out of ideas here!

It is worth bearing in mind that in the opinion of some (myself included), Gledhill's heating products (not the separate cylinders division) never were up to much.

There is a prolific poster on this site who championed their products and whose statements you may have been influenced by, in the selection of your unit. Unfortunately he has no real-life experience of their durability or build quality. You now have the experience he lacks.

The spares situation with these units is not going to improve over the next few years, and neither is the reliability.

In other words, if the Gledhill Service co do get it working, you may well be wasting money in the medium term.

If I were you I would at least give consideration at this stage to starting again, if you are looking to stay in the property a while.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply. I am having this thing replaced with a new boiler on Wednesday!
