Hi,

First post so please be gentle with me :)

I have a ground / 1st floor maisonette ( with one maisonette above me ) and have a Gledhill ShowerCyl hot water tank installed in the airing cupboard.

The problem I have is that there is no hot water to the shower hose. There is plenty of pressure, just no hot water. There is no problem with hot water supply to any of the sinks / bath. In the past I could only get about 5 mins of hot water supply to the shower but now it's only tepid for say 30 secs or so.

The ShowerCyl product has a separate heater coil for the shower unit - I am thinking that maybe the heater coil requires replacement or has become severely scaled up ( the tank is around 12 years old ). Does anyone know if this coil can be removed and replaced ? If so any idea if the system needs to be drained first ?

I've called out a local heating and plumbing firm out of the Yellow pages and their verdict is to throw out the whole system and replace with a shiny new system at £2,200 + VAT. Just to fix the shower ! Needless to say they will never get any of my business.

TIA

Rick.

You don't make it clear whether the problem with the Showercyl is the flow rate or the temperature. refer to manufacturer's instructions for a flow rate specification. If the flow rate is restricted, check the flow restrictor in the coil outlet(?) connection.

Perhaps the flow rate is too high? That would result in reduced temperatures. You must check that the flow rate is as recommended by the manufacturers.
