Hi, we have the above boiler and are getting intermittent hot water. We can alway's get hot water if we turn the heating on but sometimes not when the heating is off. We had someone out who replaced a part although I don't know what it was (novice), it was a small piece of wire about 2inches long with a small disc on the end. This hasn't done anything. Can anyone help we have a 3month old baby so this is a real struggle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds as if he may have replaced a heat sensor, these are sometimes responsible for intermittent loss of DHW but they can easily be tested so it was inappropriate to just replace it. There are too many inexperienced people trying to repair boilers.

Without being in front of your boiler my best guess is the DHW flow switch. These can be replaced and probably cost about £25 to buy. They can often be cleaned rather than replaced although most professionals would replace it if one was to hand. If not we would clean it as that usually effects the repair and avoids any further visit.

Of course there are other causes as well!

is the fan running properly? these have a problem with clearing products of combustion when the fan gets weak and can stall on hot water when fumes build up in boiler. on the perm pilot version the pilot goes out but on the electronic one it just stops then restarts giving intermitent hot water. as tony says several things can go wrong in these boilers.
