Descaled several boilers - at huge expense due to the internal water store - that had one of these connected to it. Although ironically - the one that I fitted in my last house as a tester seems to be operating fine. Bizarre.
Chemical composition is the same but the electro magnetic composition is changed. Have no idea if this makes a difference or if life is too short to worry.
Anyway not sure if the boiler is fixed, shower was cold this morning.
Just now the boiler started making very loud crackling popping sounds and then shut itself off. I could hear it from the top floor and freaked out. I called the Gas Escape people to come visit it. This is turning into a big problem.
Gas Escape said everything seems okay and went home. Tomorrow BG again.
What could it be ?
Storage is not necessary if it functions well enough, We have 9 rads and 1 bathroom (rarely take bath), 1 shower room on upper floor, 3 bods mostly showers. WB looked quite reliable. Probably needs a flush and perhaps some scale reducer. Don't suppose you can recommend someone around Brighton ? Thanks for any help.
Thanks ... why do you recommend Intergas, never heard of it, though I am a consumer. My neighbour just had an Ideal Logic put in ... but the thing is are you going to get parts for these things in 10 years ? WB you will be able to because there are so many. But I am no expert. I saw a 10 year warranty on the Intergas combi website though.
For reliability I fit Atag, in about 500 boilers I've only one real warranty call. My next choice is Intergas. There is so little to go wrong. Calcium is a problem round here but I rarely see problems with good boilers well installed. Even a sheite boiler well installed and maintained should cope. Don't rate worcester much anymore.

Glow-worm just got fixed. Looks like it was the gas valve or gas valve PCB. Also had a new secondary pump which chose this moment to seize and a little rubber hose, and the main board was also changed and a partridge in a pear tree.
Machine was last produced in 2000 so that's 15 years, I am not sure what the average time is for boilers, some parts are drying up.
It would be nice one day to get an Atag or Intergas (I'll be in touch) ... but I can see for myself the problem of not being able to source parts after 10 years. I am not sure what the installed base is for Atags in Denmark and whether the parts are interchangeable. I would like to have an efficient intelligent machine installed but possibly it's like with the iPhone, looks good, is expensive. But it's a bit negative going with a rubber-ducky boiler just because everyone else has one.
Anyway on time spent and parts, BG Homecare and I seem to be even-stevens. Not sure if the diagnostics could have been done better, difficult to say. Nice people though that's for sure. One of the old members of the local BG team just happened to have a needed part today, or it would be another 2 days without a boiler.
Atag is basically 20 years old and the vulnerable parts are pretty well generic so you will be able to get spares for a long while. The Atag only parts are common to the largest part of the range. The oldest one I maintain is vintage 1995. Never a blip.
