I've got a new internal door frame that I need to fit into an aperture made from rough sawn carcassing (timber framed wall). It'll need packing out by about 3/4" each side so I've got timber to pack it out and get it ot the right size to accomodate a 30" door plus a few mm each side for clearance.

My question is what's the best way to fix the frame timbers in? I obviously want this to look the best possible, so would you glue and nail, or countersink, screw then fill? I have adhesives to use, no more nails and sticks like sh*t.

Thanks in anticipation.

always use mechanical fixings as your primary way of securing any timber products that are weight reliant. foam is an ideal supplement for filling larger gaps of 10mm or more.

screws.
