I might be looking for one next time I have a fault.

I hear about inner plastic components of megaflows breaking up and would prefer an external expansion vessel.

What are reputable brands of unvented cylinder? Are they all stainless steel now? I am in a hard water area and have a softener.

No complaints with my Telford Tempest - though this thread has just reminded me to raise a query about a pressure change when DHW is being produced, which may have bearing on my cylinder opinion.. I'll update this if it changes :)

I have (I think) a Kingspan one. Seems okay, keeps the water hot for quite some time. I think I paid around the £600 mark for it about 5 years ago. Has an external expansion cylinder.

Here's the bumf on the side of it.

Depends on budget IMO
Let's say "less expensive than a Megaflow"

And with an external pressure vessel, not a plastic internal device that has to be periodically regenerated, and sometimes breaks up and cannot be repaired.

Joule cyclone are good but steer clear of joule invacyl.
Santon Premier and old style centre brand were good. These are still available as main/potterton/baxi branded cylinders.

Is that the cheap range?

I wondered why I couldn't see Santon on sale, ta.
I noticed the Baxi branded ones.
Invacyl is the budget range.
We had an issue with one that put me off using any more. They feel cheap.
Centre brand have also moved to a new supplier, they feel cheap too, I won't use any more of those either.
Main/potterton/baxi are good mid range ccyls.
Joule cyclone are my favourite but have had long lead times so have used a few mains recently.

Have fitted loads of external, expansion vessels on mega flows and they have continued to be in use. Some of them I did over 15 years ago and still working

That's great, but I think you mean you had to fit them because the internal bubble device was inadequate, or broke down?

And an external vessel is OK after 15 years?

You can see why I prefer the external.

Because the internal baffle had failed. If you replace with an oversized expansion vessel they last much longer

Yes, that's what I was thinking, thanks
